Model Professor is a short film about an A.I. named Evie, newly integrated into a small liberal arts college. Unbeknownst to the faculty and students, the school – in partnership with her company – has tasked her with evaluating which professors she might replace.
The story alternates between Evie’s interactions with Russell Rose, a creative writing professor, and the simulated worlds she imagines. By attending his classes and collaborating with him on writing, Evie constructs ever-shifting models of the professor — as both an educator and an author. The Model Professor team brings together students from USC’s Games and Cinema programs to collaborate with their professor, Peter Brinson.
Peter Brinson has taught game design at USC for more than twenty years. Working alongside the film school, he often contemplated making a dramatic film. With Model Professor, he collaborated with some of his students, who taught him the cinematic storytelling needed to express his perspective on education, technology, and culture today.
